If there is righteousness in the heart
There will be beauty in the character.

6.jpgPrimary Camp 2007 took place on June 15, 16 and 17th. This year saw our own Mackenzie and Mahayla Crabb in attendance. The campers all gathered on Friday evening to make the journey to the Brock Ranch in Spokane to spend a weekend learning about Christ, 8.jpgabout fellowship and having a great time doing it.

The weekend was filled with activities, fun, games, crafts, a hiking excursion and a trip to the YMCA on Saturday for an afternoon of cooling off in the pool

A WONDERFUL TIME WAS HAD BY ALL!!

colleen.jpg 1. What is your full name?
Colleen Laurel Gunter

2. How many states have you lived in?
Two, Washington and Idaho

3. What is your favorite book?
It’s actually a series of books and Janette Oke is the author. These stories took place back in the early settling of the west and they were centered around everyday happenings and how God would get them through the rough times.

4. What is your favorite singer or group?
Jim Croche

5. What is your favorite color?
All shades of blue. What else for an Aquarian?

6. What is one thing about you that people don’t know?
As shy as I am, Ive always wanted to be an actor. It’s a lot easier being someone else out in the public.

7. What are your pet peeves?
One is being called to jury service every 2 years when there are people that have never been called. Whats with that? The sound of someone scratching a chalkboard with their fingernails on purpose. Yikes!!!!

8. What is the hardest thing you have had to experience?
The hardest thing I’ve had to experience so far in my life is the passing of my Dad. What a guy- He was loving and funny. Also, my mother, although she hasn’t passed away, her stroke and many other problems have left her a totally different person.I do miss them both!!!!

9. If you were an animal, what would you be and why?
It would probably be a small dog, because it would be able to travel by car with my owners and see all of the United States!!

10. What is your favorite time of year?
Summer, summer and more summer!

11. What does being a Christian mean to you?
Being honest, helping others in need and a total love of God.

12. Who introduced you to the Community of Christ? Why are you still a part of this faith?
My husband Wayne introduced me to the Community of Christ and after 3 years of marriage, I was baptized. Ive always been one to leave something alone if it doesn’t feel right. This feels right!

13. What is your favorite scripture and why?
Matthew 5:43-45. Loving your neighbor, in certain cases, is the hardest thing to do. Overcoming this is nothing short of a miracle.

14. What is your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievment is 34 years of marriage with Wayne, who has been my strength in times of my weakness. He has been a great provider and I will always love the many laughs we have had. Plus, our four children have added so much love to our family and then all those grandchildren. What more could one ask for?

The Sagle Community of Christ would like to join in congratulating Miguel Lopez-Cano and Melanie Lopez-Grewal who were united in marriage on April 20, 2007 at Ixtapa, Mexico.

Sagle, Idaho—More than just a Pretty View

This story is from the Community of Christ International Headquarters page.

“Each Sunday we are invited to contribute to Mission Tithes for local and world ministries. The offerings to World Ministries Mission Tithes provide ministry of the church throughout the world by paying for field ministers, new congregations, and missionary outreach. Offertory stories are provided each Sunday to keep us in touch with how contributions to World Ministries Mission Tithes are spreading the peace of Jesus Christ. This story, More than just a Pretty View, takes us to Sagle, Idaho in the Inland West Mission Center and what’s happening in Apostle Susan Skoor’s Western USA Mission Field.”

100_0049.jpg1. What is your full name?
“Patrick Lawrence Moon”

2. How many states have you lived in?
“Beside the state of constant confusion, I’ve lived in three”

3. What is your favorite book?
“I have several that I really, really like and for different reasons. The Haj, by Leon Uris, is probably my favorite novel. It is a fictional story woven into true historical events. It is about the Jews gathering back to Palestine and helps us to understand the turmoil that is happening there even still. “

4. What is your favorite singer or group?
“I don’t have a favorite. There is so much great music available to us these days that I couldn’t possibly pick just one. I like to listen to all types of music at different time. It depends on my mood.”

5. What is your favorite color?
“I love the azure blue of tropical oceans.”

6. What is one thing about you that people don’t know?
“I’m very uncomfortable in crowds; almost to the point of phobia. I often feel closed in and unable to breathe.”

7. What are your pet peeves?
“When my kitchen counters become cluttered and dirty from cooking, it drives me nuts. My feet could be sticking to a greasy, filthy floor, but if there’s a dirty fork in the sink, it really bothers me.”

8. What is the hardest thing you have had to experience?
“I’d rather not comment on the hardest thing; it’s just too personal. The second hardest thing I’ve done is conduct my brother’s funeral.”

9. If you were an animal, what would you be and why?
“A bird would be good, especially one at the top of the food chain. Although, to be a dog with a kind, loving owner would be great. Eat, sleep, scratch, chase the ball, get loved by your owner, eat, sleep some more.”

10. What is your favorite time of year?
“Easter and Thanksgiving. I love the rebirth that happens in the spring and Easter embodies that. I love the fall and Thanksgiving is kind of a ‘no pressure’ holiday.”

11. What does being a Christian mean to you?
“Being a Christian means that I am a new person and I am always in the process of becoming new. It’s the greatest adventure that a person can live!”

12. Who introduced you to the Community of Christ? Why are you still a part of this faith?
“My wife Candis brought me what was then the RLDS Church. She was a lifelong member. As soon as I walked in the door, I felt a warm presence and I knew instantly that I had come home. I was treated by almost everyone like the prodigal son who had returned; I was family. That experience and many others keep me coming back. The thing that I most like about the Community of Christ is our commitment to be constantly defining ourselves as God’s people. Our church doesn’t have a creed that we must adhere to; we are always questioning who we are and waht we should be doing. When that is combined with our belief that God is always revealing Himself to us, our church has unlimited potential to shape our world.”

13. What is your favorite scripture and why?
“My favorite scripture is Ephesians 6:12-18. I have a strong testimony about those verses. God revealed this part of his word to my heart and mind two years before I ever read it. I even wrote it down!”

14. What is your greatest achievement?
“I’ve never achieved anything good without God’s direct intervention in my life. Therefore, I always say to people that the biggest thing I’ve ever done is give myself to God through repentance and baptism.”

Spaghetti Dinner

The Spaghetti Dinner held on March 24, 2007 was able to raise over $2,050.00. Again, this money will be placed into a fund for the children of the Sagle Elementary School to assist with the needs of the children who cannot afford medical, dental and vision checkups.

Thank you all for your generosity!

Donations can still be made to this fund by contacting us at saglecofchrist@hotmail.com

Pat Moon and his wife Candy recently went on a trip to San Antonio, Texas to visit with their adopted daughter Char, her husband Vernon and their two boys. They returned home with a wonderul testimony of a simple act of compassion that they wanted to share with everyone.

Char was driving us to a museum one chilly morning and I started to feel the beginning of some heartburn. I asked if she could stop by a convenience store where I could get some antacids. She pulled into a busy corner store, let me off in front and told me she’d wait around the corner of the building so she wouldn’t be blocking traffic.

When I came out looking for the car, I saw our daughter pulling a little cart toward her car, followed by an elderly Mexican woman. “We’re giving her a ride”, she said matter of factly, “could you put this in the trunk?” The old woman was thanking us profusely in Spanish and kissed Char on the cheek. Through the use of what little English the woman knew and our less than stellar command of the Spanish language, we learned that she was 82 years old and had walked to a nearby food bank where her son was to pick her up. After waiting for over an hour, she finally started walking home but with her cart now full, she quickly lost strength and had stopped in the cold morning air to pray for help. She showed us the way to her house using hand signals; all the while excitedly praising God and thanking Jesus over and over. God had anwered her prayer for help and I felt the Holy Spirit fill the car with his warm, comforting presence! I’ll not soon forget her smiling, wrinkled face as we left her with her groceries at her front door.

It always warms our hearts to do a good deed but in this instance, I received much more than that. I received yet another testimony that God answers our prayers. I was also impressed with my daughter’s compassion and sensitivity to God’s spirit. In a city of over 1.3 million people, she was the one to help the helpless. Curious, I asked her what it was that prompted her to approach the old woman and ask her if she might be of help. “I knew the look of someone needing a ride home”, she said. “When I was eight years old, I went to the Spokane fair with some friends. My mom was supposed to pick my up but never came. I finally got a ride from an older couple in a motor home.” My heart broke at the picture of a scared little girl wondering what to do. Then I realized taht God was with her then and was still with her. Only He can take our worst experiences and turn them into something good.

As I thanked God for letting me see my daughter’s heart, I also wondered at the same time, “Did God cause me to have heartburn?”

Charitable Assistance

As a Charitable Assistance group within the Community of Christ, Sagle Branch, it is our goal and mission to reach out to those in need; in our community, in our county, in our state, in our nation and internationally. We constantly seek people and places where services can be provided for the needy; whether those services be monetary or in other forms.

We are very excited about this coming year and the miracles that the Lord will be working through us.

If you know of a need in the community, please let us know of that need by contacting us at saglecofchrist@hotmail.com.

The Sagle Congregation of the Community of Christ was organized on January 9, 1904 under the Pastorship of Wilber Powell and met on Sundays in the Sagle School building. The congregation was located in what was the Spokane District of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The church building was constructed using bricks; hand-made and hand burned by Alfred A. Crum and Wilbur Yates. Construction of the church was financed by donations. The labor for the construction was donated by members of the church and the community of Sagle alike. The construction was completed on November 6, 1911. Lighting was not installed until 1914.

As well as a home to the Sagle Congregation since 1911, this church building also served as an alternate location for the Sagle School during the years 1925 – 1927.

Sagle’s church building is one of the oldest standing structures still in use by the Community of Christ today.

Our Pews

“Men don’t need pirates in the pews. Then again, the presence of such swashbucklers might not be the worst thing to happen on a Sunday morning.”
